Steven Gerrard was made captain in 2003, an armband he would keep for more than a decade. Gerrard’s goal against Olympiacos had got Liverpool to the knockout stages and in Istanbul he helped to inspire an amazing comeback from being 3-0 down to AC Milan at half-time. It was Gerrard's sublime header on 54 minutes that kickstarted a turnaround which ended with a sensational win on penalties.
