Michael Owen attracted the interest of Real Madrid and Barcelona in 2002 but manager Gérard Houllier laughed it off, saying, "They might be able to afford Ronaldo but they cannot afford Michael Owen. He went on to score his 100th Premier League goal on 26 April against West Brom and in the League Cup Final win over Manchester United. He scored his 150th goal on 15 February 2004 against Portsmouth.
